Online Library - Frequently asked questions

  • Anyone can look around the Online Library web pages but the University of Wales subscribes to a lot of electronic resources which, for licensing reasons, require a username and password.

These subscription resources may only be accessed by:

    • Registered students at a collaborative centre
    • Teaching staff  at a collaborative centre involved in delivering or supporting courses to registered students
    • Moderators of the University of Wales

The following people are not permitted to use these resources:

    • Self-registered prospective students (however, these students are eligible if they subsequently enrol on a University of Wales validated course)
    • Students studying at University of Wales accredited institutions
    • Staff at University of Wales accredited institutions who are not Moderators of validated courses
    • Alumni
  • The Online Library’s electronic resources are organised by subject. Each subject has a separate area for:

    • eBooks: We have over 750 ebooks in our collection
    • databases: we offer full-text databases that provide access to subject based collections of ejournals, books, videos, tutorials etc.
    • eJournals: we subscribe to individual ejournals and provide links to subject based open access ejournals
    • Other: we provide links to freely available subject gateways and websites that may help you with your studies.

There is also a study skills section which gives advice about how to avoid plagiarism and how to reference. It also lists study skills ebooks that feature in the NetLibrary ebook subscription.

  • eBooks, or electronic books, are usually digital versions of print books.

We have over 750 ebooks in our collection, covering a broad range of subjects.

The collection is accessible on the eBooks tab of every subject page.

  • We subscribe to a number of mostly full-text databases. These databases provide access to subject based collections of ejournals, magazines, books, videos, tutorials etc.

The databases can be accessed on the Database tab of each subject page.

  • We offer full text ejournals.

Many are contained in our databases, but we also offer individual full text ejournals and provide links to full text ejournals that are freely available on the Internet.

You can search for specific journals by their name in the A to Z List of eJournals, as this indexes all the full text journals available through our library.

Please note that you can only search for journal names in the A to Z List of eJournals, not the content within the journals.

To access the ejournals, click on eJournal tab of the relevant subject page. The A to Z List of eJournals is located under the eJournal tab of every subject page.
