Any student enrolled on a programme leading to an award of the University of Wales is able to use the University’s Appeals Procedures.

Students studying for a taught award may only appeal on one of the following grounds:

(i) that there has been an arithmetical or other factual error in the published marks;

(ii) that there were special circumstances which had an adverse effect on the student’s performance which were not known to the relevant Examining Board. In such a case, the student must show good reason why such circumstances could not have been reported by the student prior to the Examining Board meeting;

(iii) that there were defects or irregularities in the conduct of the examinations or in the written instructions or in advice relating thereto, where such defects, irregularities or advice might, in the student’s opinion, have had an adverse effect on their performance.

Appeals which question the academic judgement of examiners, are made on grounds other than those stipulated in i – iii above, or which are based on medical evidence dated after the release of results will not be admissible.

Please note that the grounds of appeal are different for students studying for a research award, and research students should refer to the annex of the University of Wales Appeals Procedure for further information.

WHICH PROCEDURE APPLIES? 
The University has established five appeals procedures for candidates for University examinations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Collaborative Centres and Accredited and Affiliated-Link Institutions.

University of Wales Appeals Procedure 
This procedure is applicable to: students studying at a University of Wales Collaborative Centre for an undergraduate or taught postgraduate programme and candidates studying for a research award.

Appeals Procedure (Accredited and Affiliated-Link Institutions) 
This procedure is applicable to students who are studying at an Accredited or Affiliated-Link institution in Wales (for either a postgraduate or undergraduate, taught or research award).

Appeals Procedure (Unfair Practice Decisions) 
This procedure is applicable to students who wish to appeal against the decision of a Committee of Enquiry convened to consider an allegation of unfair practice.

Appeals Procedure (Fitness to Practise Decisions) 
This procedure is applicable to students who wish to appeal against the decision of a Committee on Fitness to Practise.

Appeals Procedure (Admissions Decisions) 
This procedure is applicable to candidates who wish to appeal against a decision of the University’s admissions staff.

HOW TO SUBMIT AN APPEAL 
Please see the relevant Appeals Procedure for detailed information on how to submit an appeal to the University.

Please note however, that if you are a student at a Collaborative Centre and wish to submit an appeal, you must firstly do so to your Centre, under Stage 1 of the University of Wales Appeals Procedure. 
Once you have exhausted the appeals procedure at your Centre, and if you are not satisfied with the outcome of the appeal, you may submit an appeal to the University of Wales under Stage 2 of the Appeals Procedure.

Once you are ready to make an appeal to the University you must complete the relevant Appeals Form and send it to appealsandcomplaints@wales.ac.uk. All appeals must be submitted in writing.
