Qian Wei Sheng, who is studying for a University of Wales MBA at the Research Institute of Tsinghua University In Shenzhen, China, was the runner-up in the first China (Shenzhen) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the results of which were announced recently. His competition project – on an Ecological Road Permeability System – beat more than 20,000 entries in the preliminary and semi-final rounds to take second prize in the final.
The competition, organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Information Bureau and the China Association of Technological Entrepreneurs, was open to individual and group projects, and fifty awards were available from a prize fund amounting to 30 million yuan (4.38 million US$). The competition, which aims to promote innovation, to encourage science researchers to start businesses and to cultivate high-tech pioneering, will be an annual event.
