Eisteddfod 2018

The University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David is offering a huge range of activities for people of all ages at its stand at the National Eisteddfod which this year takes place in Cardiff Bay.

From Saturday, August 4th until Saturday, August 11th, the activities and events  on the stand will vary from performances to lectures, and from craft workshops to discussions.

Here’s a full timetable of the activities offered at this year’s event:

Monday, August 6th:

All Day: Come and design your own sea-themed logo with staff from Swansea College of Art to celebrate the Year of the Sea 2018

11.00- 12.00    Copper Workshop with the artist and lecturer, Gwenllian Beynon.

12:45-13:15     UWTSD and University of Wales session in Y Babell Lên - Paul Robeson and the Eisteddfod:  Catrin Beard talks to Mererid Hopwood and Ashok Ahir

14.00- 15.00    Artist and lecturer, Gwenllian Beynon discusses her recent trip to Ohio and the work that she and her students created after their return.

15.00- 16.00    Come and listen to Glain Rhys, former BA Perfformio student singing

Tuesday, August 7th:

All Day: Come and design your own sea-themed logo with staff from Swansea College of Art to celebrate the Year of the Sea 2018

1100 – 1300:  Simultaneous Translation -taster session

Come and learn more about our innovative course for prospective simultaneous translators

12:45-13:15     UWTSD and University of Wales session in Y Babell Lên - Mam Cymru:  Catrin Beard talks to Heulwen Davies, author of Mam: Croeso i’w clwb and the first bilingual blog for mothers  

1300 – 1400: Taster Session: Postgraduate certificate in Subtitling – an opportunity to hear more about the innovative course offered at UWTSD for prospective subtitlers

1400 – 1500: Come and meet some of the presenters from S4C’s children’s strand, Cyw to sing songs and play games

1500 – 1600: Come and meet Carys Ifan, Director of Canolfan S4C Yr Egin to hear more about the centre’s exciting developments. There’ll be an opportunity to meet some of the Yr Egin tenants and to see their content too.

Wednesday, August 8th:

All Day: Come and design your own sea-themed logo with staff from Swansea College of Art to celebrate the Year of the Sea 2018

1000 – 1100: Come and meet Professor Dylan Jones, Dean of Yr Athrofa, the Institute of Education

1100 – 1200: Densil Morgan launches:Theologia Cambrensis: Protestant Religion and Theology in Wales:Volume 1: From Reformation to Revival, 1588-1760 (University of Wales Press).  The launch will be chaired by the Rev. Euros Wyn Jones and speakers will include Professor Ceri Davies, Swansea University and Dr Robert Pope, Westminster College, Cambridge.

12:45-13:15     UWTSD and University of Wales session in Y Babell Lên: Catrin Beard yn holi’r Athro Menna Elfyn am ei Llên Gofiant (Barddas).

Thursday, August 9th:

All Day: Come and design your own sea-themed logo with staff from Swansea College of Art to celebrate the Year of the Sea 2018

12:45-13:15: UWTSD and University of Wales session in Y Babell Lên: Bodio’r Geiriadur: Myrddin ap Dafydd.

1500 – 1600: Come and listen to Glain Rhys, former BA Perfformio student singing.

Friday, August 10th: 

All Day: Come and design your own sea-themed logo with staff from Swansea College of Art to celebrate the Year of the Sea 2018

1000 – 1100: Craft workshop for children with Glenda Tinney from Yr Athrofa, the Institute of Education

1100 – 1130: UWTSD and University of Wales session in Y Babell Lên - Welsh Valentine’s Poems gyda Dr Rhiannon Ifans

1230 – 1330: Friends of the University of Wales Dictionary meeting - come and listen to Myrddin ap Dafydd, President of the Friends Society; Dr. G. Angharad Fychan, Editor, of the University of Wales Dictionary discussing words that are new to the dictionary and Andrew Hawke, Managing Editor of University of Wales Dictionary discussing GPC+

1300 – 1400: Craft workshop for children with Lynwen Roberts from Yr Athrofa, the Institute of Education

1400 – 1500: Meet up with old friends at the UWTSD reunion – a warm welcome to all

1500 – 1600: Come and listen to Glain Rhys, former BA Perfformio student singing
