Dr Gavin Bunting
Following a competitive process, the Higher Education Academy (HEA) has appointed convenors to lead two Special Interest Groups (SIGs) on Internationalisation. Amongst them is Dr Gavin Bunting, Senior Lecturer at the University of Wales.
Dr Bunting will convene the Special Interest Group (SIG) – Transnational Education, while Dr Sue Robson (Newcastle University), Dr Scott Burgess and Dr Diane Sloan (Northumbria University) will convene the SIG - Internationalisation of the Curriculum.
Reflecting the operational priorities of the HEA’s internationalisation work, the SIG - Transnational Education will focus on promoting high quality learning and teaching on overseas programmes.
Speaking about his appointment and his aims for the group, Dr Bunting said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the UK higher education sector to collaborate on addressing some of the important issues within transnational education. Central to the work of the group will be a focus on how to ensure an equitable student experience no matter where programmes are delivered, along with identifying mechanisms and support to enable high quality learning and teaching.
The group will identify good practice and develop suitable resources to help maintain the quality and reputation of UK degrees.
I would like to encourage staff at UK higher education institutions who are interested in developing high quality learning and teaching on transnational education programmes, to contact me for further information on how to join the group.”
The SIGs will run, in the first instance, until July 2013. Each SIG will receive £4000 to facilitate its work and in return for the funding, each SIG will be expected to produce at least one practical output for the UK HE sector such as a resource, tool or guide which will promote engagement in the theme of their SIG.
