The Dylan Thomas International Poetry Award

Posted on 14 March 2014

As part of the year-long celebrations of the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth, our merger partner the University of Wales Trinity Saint David have announced the creation of the UWTSD Dylan Thomas Awards celebrating excellence within the arts at a local, national and international level.

To encourage excellence in the area of poetry, the University has launched an international competition for poets - The Dylan Thomas International Poetry Award.

HARMONY: a creative brief

Poets from around the world are invited to submit a single previously un-published poem of a prescribed length in response to the word “Harmony” by the 31st March 2014.

A selected panel will draw up a shortlist of poems, from which a winner will be chosen, and the winning poem will be performed at the opening night of the International Glass Exhibition at Swansea Waterfront Museum in July 2014.

An award of £2000 will go to the winner and a copy of the poem will be displayed for the next year at the University of Wales Dylan Thomas Centre. Short listed poems will also be invited for inclusion in a subsequent publication celebrating both of these international awards.

A detailed brief for the Poetry Award outlining all the stages and dates for work to be submitted can be found on the University of Wales Trinity Saint David website here.
