This year’s Investors in Families conference, with the theme ‘Enjoy and Achieve’ will be promoting the role of schools and families in improving the wellbeing and achievement of children.
The conference, which is free for Investors in Families member schools but open to all professionals working with schools and families, will be held in the All Nations Centre in Cardiff on the 15th of March. It will have keynote speeches from Professor Sally Holland the Children’s Commissioner for Wales and consultant clinical psychologist Professor Neil Frude.
Sally Holland will be emphasising the importance of taking into account the views of children and Neil will bring his experience of promoting wellbeing through schemes such as the book prescription scheme designed to enhance mental health.
The conference will also include a panel discussion on the conference theme with contributions from Children in Wales, Welsh Government, the Clore Partnership among others.
School leaders, family engagement workers and other professionals will have the opportunity to attend a range of workshops delivered by schools and organisations on the subject enjoyment and learning.
These workshops will highlight the ways in which enjoyment and learning can combine to increase achievement and will include examples of enhancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities from Dark Sky Wales, using the creative arts to engage families from Artworks, tools for increasing sustained thinking and emotional wellbeing from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the work of Children in Wales in promoting children’s rights.
