The National Eisteddfod of Wales 2018
In the 2018 National Eisteddfod of Wales, it was announced at a ceremony in the Literature Pavilion, that Heather Williams was the recipient of a prize for a pair of articles suitable for publication in Y Casglwr, a magazine for book lovers.
Dr Williams submitted two articles to the competition, both looking at Wales from a European perspective. One was about a book on Iolo Morganwg that the French historian Henri Martin planned and researched on location in Wales in the 1860s, but never managed to finish. The other discussed the trip made to Wales by Coquebert to Montbret, a French diplomat en route to Dublin in 1789. The Welsh books that he bought on his travels are kept in Rouen to this day.
Heather Williams is a research fellow at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies and these articles draw on her work on the AHRC-funded ‘European Travellers to Wales: 1750-2010’ project.
