Eisteddfod
UWTSD and UW offers a range of activities at the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of Wales is offering a huge range of activities for people of all ages at its stand at the National Eisteddfod which this year takes place in Llanrwst.
The activities and events offer at the UWTSD and UW stand will vary from performances to lectures, and from craft workshops to discussions.
Here’s a full timetable of the activities:
Monday, August 5th:
All Day: Come and experience Virtual Reality in our VR booth
11.00- 12.00 Copper embossing workshop with Gwenllian Beynon, Art and Design lecturer at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art
1200 – 1300: Story Session with Canolfan Peniarth. Who is Sara Sero, and who is Alun Un, and where is Dilys Deg’s mirror hiding? Come and enjoy a story or two from a collection of characters from the Cymeriadau Difyr; Stryd y Rhifau collection
1300 – 1400: Gwenllian Beynon, lecturer in Art and Design at Swansea College of Art presents a new resource – Cyfaill Celfyddyd / An Artist’s Friend - a resource created in collaboration with Coleg Sir Gâr and Cardiff Met and sponsored by Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. Come and hear more about this exciting project and talk to Gwenllian about the resource.
1400 – 1500: Come and meet the presenters from Cyw. Enjoy playing games on our stand with Cyw presenters, Elin and Huw!
1500 – 1600: Story Session – Canolfan Peniarth Cyfres Cnoi Cil: Paul Robeson and the 1957 Miners' Eisteddfod. Come and learn more about the history of the American singer, actor and athlete who was supposed to sing at the Eisteddfod?
1600: Come and listen to Glain Rhys, a graduate of UWTSD’s BA Perfformio course performing an acoustic set
Tuesday, August 6th:
All Day: Come and experience Virtual Reality in our VR booth
1100 – 1200: Copper embossing workshop with Gwenllian Beynon, Art and Design lecturer at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art
1100 - 1200: Rhagoriaith: Launch of the Simultaneous Translation website in the company of Eluned Morgan AM.
1200 – 1300: Story session with Canolfan Peniarth. Did you know that a snail has between 12000 and 25000 teeth? Come and learn some more fantastic facts from the ‘Wyt ti'n Gwybod?’ series
1300 – 1700: Come and have a go at some Simultaneous Translation and Subtitling! Learn more about the craft and about the Simultaneous Translation and Subtitling postgraduate courses offered at UWTSD

Wednesday, August 7th:
All Day: Come and experience Virtual Reality in our VR booth
1100 – 1200: Art Workshop with Siwan Thomas, Surface Pattern student at Swansea College of Art where you will have the opportunity to work patterns on 2D objects. Siwan works with the idea of re-interpreting objects from our national collections and has recently worked in the archive of St Fagans. This is an opportunity for you to discuss her work with her and to ‘play’ and her artwork.
1200 – 1300: Story session with Canolfan Peniarth. What's so special about Harri’s planet? And what is Reuben’s story? Come and listen to some stories from the ‘Tybed Pam?’ series
1400 – 1500: You are welcome to join the Friends of Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru at the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst to hear the Dictionary’s Editor, Andrew Hawke, introduce the President of the Friends (and the new Archdruid) Myrddin ap Dafydd speak about the dialect and sayings of the Conwy Valley. Also addressing the Friends will be the Dictionary’s Senior Editors. Angharad Fychan will discuss some of the new words published in the Dictionary over the last twelve months, and Ann Parry Owen will speak of John Jones Gellilyfdy’s fishy glossary. Intrigued by the ‘fishy glossary’?
1530: Canolfan Peniarth launches Cyfrol o Fonologau: Cefin Roberts. Join us to launch a new volume of monologues that have been collected and edited by Cefin Roberts. The collection of monologues is specifically for pupils and students studying drama at GCSE and A level. Cefin will present and read some of the monologues and talk about their background and performance options.
Thursday, August 8th:

1100 – 1200:Art Workshop with Siwan Thomas, Surface Pattern student at Swansea College of Art where you will have the opportunity to work patterns on 2D objects. 1200 – 1300: Story session with Canolfan Peniarth. Do you like singing….? Do you like karaoke….? Come and sing with us in a special session with the Caneuon Cŵl Ap.
1300 – 1400: Owain Roberts and Gruff Roberts, two musicians originally from Llanfairfechan play alternative music by mixing different types of sounds on acoustic instruments. Owain Roberts has recently graduated with a Music Technology degree from Swansea College of Art and has recently taken up the post of Artist in Residence at UWTSD for the next academic year.
1400 – 1500:Come and meet the presenters from Cyw. Enjoy playing games on our stand with Cyw presenters, Elin and Huw!
1500: Her Gyfieithu 2019 – translating Polish poetry into Welsh. Join us as we present the winning poet-translator. Polish drinks and delicacies served. All Welcome. Organised by Wales Literature Exchange, University of Wales Trinity Saint David in cooperation with Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, Polish Cultural Institute, O’r Pedwar Gwynt, Wales PEN Cymru, Swansea University, Literature Across Frontiers and Mercator International.
Friday, August 9th :

1200 – 1300: Story session with Canolfan Peniarth. Traveling back to the Middle Ages – come and hear about some of the Medieval Wales’ most important figures. Among them, Princess Gwenllian, Gerallt Gymro, Llewelyn and many more.

1500 – 1600: Story Session – Canolfan Peniarth. Cyfres Cnoi Cil: Y Royal Charter. October 26th was a day that changed the small village of Moelfre forever. I wonder if you know about the history of the steam ship that got into trouble in a big storm off the north coast of Anglesey?
1600: Come and listen to Mari Mathias, a student on UWTSD’s BA Perfformio course performing an acoustic set
