In March 2013, The University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies (CAWCS) was awarded a research grant of £774,582, over four years, from The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
The research grant is supporting a 4-year research project taking place at CAWCS, in collaboration with King’s College London, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) and the National Library of Wales, on medieval Welsh-language literature devoted to the veneration of saints entitled The Cult of Saints in Wales: Medieval Welsh-language Sources and their Transmission.
On the 16-19th of September at the Haliwell Centre, Carmarthen, a conference is to be held as part of this AHRC-funded project
The principal aim of the project is to produce an electronic edition of the poetry addressed to saints, the prose lives, and the saints’ genealogies which make up the Welsh-language hagiographical corpus.
At the conference these texts will be examined and discussed; the aim is also to locate them in a wide range of contexts. At its broadest, the theme encompasses the range of local responses to hagiography across Celtic-speaking countries, Britain and Europe.
A draft programme for the day can be viewed online, where interested parties will also find details of how to register for the conference - www.wales.ac.uk/en/CentreforAdvancedWelshCelticStudies/NewsEvents/Saints.aspx
