As part of the DT100 celebrations to mark the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth, our merger partner the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is taking part in a number of events in North America to celebrate the life of one of Wales’ most most celebrated and creative figures.
Over the coming weeks, award-winning poet and playwright Menna Elfyn, Director of Creative writing at UWTSD, will be visiting Vancouver and Seattle to attend events including:
24th February: Vancouver Welsh Society
Vancouver
Menna Elfyn will host an evening of poetry at the Vancouver Welsh Society – the event is by Invitation only.
Guardians of the history of Welsh migration to Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia, the Vancouver Welsh Society provides a friendly place for people from Wales to gather and socialise together.
In addition to reading many of Dylan Thomas’ poems, Menna will also read from her latest book Murmur.
26th February - 1st March: Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) annual Conference
Seattle
Now the largest literary conference in North America, the AWP holds its Annual Conference and Bookfair in a different city each year to celebrate the authors, teachers, writing programmes, literary centres, and independent publishers of that region.
As part of the conference, UWTSD will be celebrating the life and work of Dylan Thomas with Menna Elfyn and Tony Kendrew, a fellow poet and former UWTSD student, at stand Q1 throughout the event.
1st March: Puget Sound Welsh Society St. David’s Day Celebration
Lake City Presbyterian Church, Seattle
At the annual concert celebrating Saint David’s day, Menna Elfyn will be in attendance reading both her own poetry and poems from Dylan Thomas’ body of work.
