Welcome to the January 2010 Validation Unit eUpdate , our quarterly newsletter informing you of events, news and developments.

Conferences

We are pleased to announce that the University of Wales will be running two conferences on the theme of Student Engagement in 2010 (22-23 April in Cardiff and 26 May in Singapore ). Sessions will cover a number of key student engagement issues including induction, successfully running a staff/student consultative committee and making the appeals and complaints student focused, together with a session on student-driven change that should prove valuable to both staff and students. Places are limited to two staff and one student from each institution and we hope to see representatives from every institution.

The conference fee is £50 per staff delegate (students attend free of charge) which includes conference sessions, lunch, refreshments and dinner. Please note that the cost does not include travel or overnight accommodation, however we will be providing a list of local hotels for a range of budgets. Meeting of Moderators

Due to recent adverse weather conditions, the annual Meeting of Moderators - scheduled for 7 ^th January - was postponed. This will now be held on 9 ^th April at City Hall, Cardiff. We would ask Moderators to make every effort to attend this event. It will be an excellent opportunity to meet fellow Moderators and Validation Unit staff, to discuss common issues and hear about University of Wales initiatives and developments. Graduation Celebration

We are delighted that the University’s 2010 graduation celebration is to be held at St David’s Hall, Cardiff on Friday 28 May . Further information on the event >>

Postgraduate Certificate in Developing Professional Practice in Higher Education

The University is pleased to inform you of the launch of an online Postgraduate Certificate in Developing Professional Practice in Higher Education. This one year programme will be delivered on a part time basis by the Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the University of Wales, Newport, and has been designed to be accessible to staff at institutions with validated provision. The programme will be launched in February 2010 and a discounted fee has been agreed for the initial intake.
