Quality Handbook

I attach an amendments sheet, which I would ask that you review carefully.

To summarise, the main amendments are:

Validation/QR

  • Validation/QR paperwork should be sent to UW 4 weeks prior to the event or the event may have to be postponed
  • There are more specific requirements in relation to FDL programmes (in terms of review of delivery platform, validation panel members, moderator expertise)
  • UW can now only validate schemes in approved languages
  • If existing centres wish to propose a new scheme for validation there is a new form to complete and submit to TDB for approval (please factor this in to your planning process)
  • The procedure for amending schemes has been updated and revised with examples of types of change and the procedure to follow
  • We have updated the procedure for approval of new centres to include ‘overflow’ accommodation and need for collaborative centres to complete an initial vetting form and a proposal document (for which there are guidelines)

Monitoring

  • CVs of new members of staff at the collaborative centre need to be sent to the Validation Unit for approval (by the Moderator)
  • Students should receive feedback on their work within 3 weeks
  • We have developed guidance notes for the ACCR and added tables (to provide statistical information) to the ACCR template
  • Students should be provided with Joint Board of Studies agenda and minutes (even if unable to attend)
  • Changes to feeder programmes for top up degrees need to go through JBS for approval

Moderators

  • There is a report form for the Moderator Designate to complete when reviewing draft documentation
  • Senior/Chief Moderators will now be known as Co-ordinating Moderators
  • Moderator duties/criteria for appointment have been updated and the moderators term of appointment is 5 years
  • Moderators may be drawn from the new UW Academic Faculty
  • There have been minor amendments to the moderators report form

External Examiners

  • There will be two external examiners for each scheme and all newly appointed externals should be fluent in language of delivery
  • There have been minor amendments to the external examiners report form

A hard copy of the handbook will be circulated to all collaborative centres within the next few weeks. Please dispose of all previous versions of the handbook.
