It’s funny how when you think all is going to quieten down, all of a sudden there is a whip of action! On Monday Rhys and I met with Bronwen the Librarian, to find out what data bases we currently have on our library and how a student can get the most from it. It is important to emphasize the library is a supplementary media to enhance your experience. It is likely you already have a full and topic-enhanced library within your own centre, and we do not want to provide our students with more of what they already have. Instead we’re hoping to show you links between subjects to utilise within your own studies. When searching on databases take a look at the Google advanced search section, for ideas and tips of specifying your search. You can then apply this technique to your database searches.
Student Engagement in London has begun. This week saw the first London Student Hub take place with the emphasis being on student representation. Students from around London came together to network and take part in our workshops. If you’re a student in London and didn’t go, contact your Institution and find out who went?
To conclude the week, a team brief took place whereby every member of the Academic department came together to feed back on what each has been up to; it’s a useful activity, especially for the Student Liaison Team, as we’re out and about a lot.
And the encore to the week was the Lunch Time Seminar with Robert Brown, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research), presenting on the Common Academic Framework for research degrees; it was a useful insight into how the majority of Institutions are operating and compares with the experiences described to me by students, as I’ve visited your institutions.
