Hello!
I’m back for a second week.
Monday started with introductions and inductions, while Tuesday saw team meetings and task sharing. I’ve joined Rhys in producing a guide for students new to UW courses. So look out on your guide for helpful hints and tips to using washing machines, kitchen appliances and supermarkets. Exciting stuff indeed!
On Wednesday we took a team away day to the Forest of Dean which was an excellent opportunity to team build and get to know my new colleagues and also to ride on the Forest of Dean Steam Railway. I even got to ride in the Engine, and much to everyone’s envy, (they tried to disguise it as teasing, but I know the truth), got to wear the train drivers cap.
A-Level results came out last week and news everywhere reported the reduced number of university places left many Students disappointed. If you have been successful, congratulations, if you did not get onto your chosen course, don’t panic! Read through the materials the university will now have sent to you and get excited about going to Uni. If you were not successful this year in finding a place, again don’t panic! Talk to your old schools and colleges and read through the materials available online for guidance and advice.
Towards the end of last week I met with members of UW Staff for a better insight into the UW, finding out what courses are run and where in the world they’re delivered.
This week my plan is to devise a strategy to engage research students; if you have any suggestions please email them to me at h.brewster@wales.ac.uk. Also can you remember what starting Uni was like? What do you wish you had known or been told before starting Uni?
Suggestion’s so far have included knowing how to use a washing machine, how to cook and easily enhance your CV ready for stepping into the real world.
So, until next time,
Hattie.
