 5th February

Hello.

I’m back from my adventures abroad. I spent last week with students studying at IBTS (International Baptist Theological Seminary) in Prague. Every year the research students must attend the colloquium, a form of conference; each student brings to the table what they have done since the previous year. A discussion is held around each piece of work presented and the student is guided and supported by their peers and supervisors. As well as this, I set up a small display in their library so that all University of Wales students could collect and read some of our materials for a better idea as to what the University is and plans to become.

Towards the end of the week I observed an Institution periodic review - this is where the University of Wales visits each Institution offering research provision and ensures what has been written in documents by the Institutions management is happening. Interviews take place between external moderators, senior staff, student support and the students themselves, throughout just one day. Much preparation in report writing and reading takes place between the centre and UW, ensuring quality for our students.

No rest this week or pleasant walk across campus to my next meeting, instead a flying visit to the office to file some papers and straight out on the road again. Rhys and I attended the Trinity St David Refreshers fairs, an opportunity to chat to our students and update them on what UW has been up to. The Student Liaison Officers are considering preparing some form of communication to keep subscribed members directly updated with what’s going on at all our centres. If you’ve any ideas for articles, please don’t hesitate to send them to us and your story may feature in one of our future mailings - studentenquirieswales.ac.uk|

Write to you soon.

Hattie.
