The Start of the Big Rush

The Start of the Big Rush

Hi Guys; hope you’re all well!

I have been ridiculed for my terrible jokes this week so thoughts I’d share one with you to start off.

‘What’s, black and white; and eats like a horse...... (Comedy Pause)...... A ZEBRA!!’

(If there’s any reason why I shouldn’t be at the next Royal Variety Performance, leave a comment.)

The student engagement team had a meeting this week to discuss our availability for Freshers fair’s and student induction weeks. After realising the intensity of the weeks ahead I feel a little daunted, but excited.

We have allocated at least one member of the team to each institution that made enquiries regarding our availability for the upcoming student inductions at our Collaborative centres and are still hopeful of adding further visits to centres with our remaining free dates. If your interested in having us at your student induction, either; ask a member of staff at your institution or contact us at studentenquirieswales.ac.uk|

I had the opportunity this week to attend a presentation on the subject of Learning and Teaching, by Professor Nigel Palastanga (UW Pro Vice Chancellor Learning, Teaching and Enhancement). The presentation brought to light the questions; can a degree that has numerous styles of delivery (e.g. provided 100% online or 100% on campus through lectures, seminars etc) be comparable and are they the same?

If you have any thoughts, leave a comment below.

The presentation was also beneficial for me in other ways. As I am still learning about the University of Wales (UW), it informed me what UW actually offers its Alliance Institutions and Collaborative Centres. Although I was already aware of all these resources, it was useful to talk through them in great detail.

It was great to hear about such people as the moderators, who have an on-going relationship with their allocated universities; meeting staff and students on a regular basis, with an aim to maintain the quality and standard of the UW degree. In addition there are moderator champions, who have a particular area of expertise; therefore only work with institutions that requires advice and support in that field.

That’s my week in a nutshell,

Stay safe and look out for my blog next week

Rhys
