About Religion and Philosophy Collection

Religion and Philosophy Collection is an EBSCO database which provides bibliographic and full-text content for over 300 journals. Subjects include:

  • world religions
  • major denominations
  • biblical studies
  • religious history
  • epistemology
  • political philosophy
  • philosophy of language
  • moral philosophy
  • history of philosophy

How to access Religion and Philosophy Collection

  1. Go to the University of Wales Online Library
  2. Select Theology and Religious Studies from the subject menu on the left of the screen
  3. Go to the “Databases” tab and select Religion and Philosophy Collection (it will be easier to navigate back to the Online Library pages if you right-click and open the link in a new window or tab)
  4. If you have not already logged in, you will be prompted to enter your username and password (if you do not have a username and password, please see the Help section for more information about how to get log in details)
  5. If your login details are correct, you will then be taken to the home page for Religion and Philosophy Collection (see image below)

How to search Religion and Philosophy Collection

 

1.    Select multiple EBSCO databases

The EBSCOhost interface allows users to search multiple EBSCO databases simultaneously. This will increase your chances of finding a broad range of useful material for your studies. If you currently use Religion and Philosophy Collection, you may also find the following EBSCO databases useful:

  • ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials

 

To search multiple EBSCO databases, click “Choose Databases” above the basic search box on the main Religion and Philosophy Collection interface. Select which databases you wish to search and click "OK".

2.    Search for full text

Not all material in Religion and Philosophy Collection is available in full text. Some of the items in your search results will be bibliographic (containing information such as author name(s), title and publication details). To ensure that you retrieve items which you are able to read in the full text, make sure you click the box entitled “Full Text” (see image below).

3.    Begin searching

To begin searching, enter one or more keywords for your topic in the basic search box. Below the basic search box, you will find various search options which allow you to tailor your search by publication name, publication type, date etc.

After you have entered your search in the search box, click ‘Search’, and all items matching the search criteria will be displayed in a Results List.

4.    Refine your results

Once you have entered a search, you can refine your results by:

  • peer reviewed
  • date range
  • source type (academic journals, magazines, book reviews)
  • subject 
  • publication name 

 

These search limiters enable you to tailor your search to your individual topic. Select which search limiters you are interested in and click the "Update" button to update your search results.

How to view an item in Religion and Philosophy Collection

You will see a PDF Full Text or an HTML Full Text icon in your results list for all items that are available to read in full text:

Records which do not feature either of these icons are bibliographic records where the full text is not available.

Printing/emailing/saving/citing results in Religion and Philosophy Collection 

If you only wish to print/email/save/cite one item, click on the item’s title then click on the desired option in the “Tools” section on the right of the screen. Once you have clicked on the relevant option, follow the instructions on screen.

An easier way to manage your results is to collect items that are relevant to your research in your folder by clicking on the "Add to folder" icon for each item. When you are ready, you can select multiple items to print/email/save/cite etc. at the same time.
