Winners of My Wales Video Competition Announced
We are delighted to announce that the winner for the MyWales Video Competition is Iwan Pitts from Gwynedd, a third year media student at the University of Wales, Lampeter. His three-minute video impressed the judges with its witty, informative and hope-filled narrative, taking the viewer on a whistle-stop tour of his life so far – from his time spent stacking shelves in Tesco, all the way through to his current studentship. For his biographical slideshow, Iwan will receive a brand new Toshiba laptop which we hope will be of use to him in his final year and beyond.
Following closely in second place is Alvin Phee from Singapore, now a distance learning student at RDI (http://www.rdi.co.uk). His entry consisted of a video-montage juxtaposing shots of the Singaporean landscape with footage of Cardiff’s civic centre. As Alvin informs the viewer, he has never set foot in Wales, but values the far-reaching high-quality education the University provides. For his efforts, he will receive an iPod touch.
Originally, no third prize was planned for the competition, but having considered the high quality of entries, the University decided that one should be awarded to Bektemir Yusupov from Uzbekistan, graduate of the Management Development Institute Singapore (MDIS) – in collaboration with the University of Wales. The video is Yusupov’s homage to the University of Wales, the degree from which helped him secure a position at Uzbekistan’s most prestigious companies - The National Bank of Uzbekistan.
All of the successful videos were streamed on to a large screen for the viewing pleasure of guests at this year’s graduation ceremony in St. David’s Hall, Cardiff.
The MyWales Video Competition was open to students currently enrolled on a University of Wales award. Videos lasting no longer than three minutes were required to depict what being a University of Wales student meant to the entrant and why they enjoy being a part of the MyWales community. Videos were judged on their innovativeness and originality.
