New Head of Communications for the University of Wales
The University of Wales is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Head of Communications, Joanna Davies.
Joanna, who is originally from Gorslas, Carmarthenshire, was previously responsible for managing Press and Media for Arts Council of Wales. She attended Maesyryfa Bilingual School, Cefneithin, before receiving the Evan Morgan Scholarship to study at the then University of Wales in Aberystwyth. After completing her MPhil in Film and Media Studies, Joanna spent ten years as a TV Producer and Marketing Manager for ITV1 Wales, S4C and BBC Wales before joining the Arts Council.
Also an author, Joanna has published two books, ‘Y Taff Pac’, (Y Lolfa), a biography of Welsh young actors and more recently, ‘Ffreshars’, (Gomer), which explored the adventures of three young undergraduates in Aberystwyth University in the early 1990s. She has recently completed the extended English language version of the novel, ‘Freshers’ which will be published by Honno Press in March 2010. She was also the recipient of a major Writer’s Bursary last year awarded by Academi, the Literature Agency for Wales. Joanna is also a Musician and an Accordion Champion of Wales.
Commenting on her new post with University of Wales, Joanna said:
“This is a very exciting time for the University as it focuses on its role in serving Wales and its people. I hope I can contribute in a significant way to the University’s continued success on the world stage.”
