Linden Peach

We are delighted to welcome Professor Linden Peach to the University of Wales, as Dean of the newly-created Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Professor Peach will be joining us from Edge Hill University where he is a Professor in English and is responsible for Research and Postgraduate provision in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Prior to his appointment at Edge Hill, he has held senior posts at a variety of universities, including Northumbria, Gloucestershire, Loughborough - where he was first awarded a Personal Chair in Modern Literature, Bretton Hall University of Leeds and Goldsmiths College University of London.

Having taught in two of London’s most prestigious centres for adult education, Richmond Adult and Community College and Goldsmiths College, Professor Peach has always had a strong commitment to widening participation. Testament to this, he introduced some of the first access courses in London University including a media access course, funded by south London boroughs, which focused on diversity.

In some respects, Professor Peach is returning home as he was born and raised in Cardiff. He was educated at Canton High School and went on to read for a BA and PhD in English at the then University of Wales Aberystwyth. He is well known for his work on Welsh writing in English and his new book on Emyr Humphreys will be published shortly by the University of Wales Press. He is a Fellow of the English Association, a member of the Welsh Academy and an Honorary Research Fellow of Swansea University.

Professor Peach commented:

'I am looking forward to joining the University of Wales and taking on this new and crucial role. The arts and humanities have always been strong in Wales and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to be able to contribute to the University's national and international future development.'

Professor Marc Clement, Vice –Chancellor for the University of Wales added:

“It is an exciting time for the University of Wales and we have been fortunate indeed to secure Professor Linden Peach for this pivotal post in our newly created Faculty. Professor Peach brings the mix of experience, knowledge and flair which is needed to nurture the highest quality within our ever-developing student-centred environment and I am delighted that he has chosen to work with the University of Wales.”
