FAQs
"I'm not from the UK"
That's okay! The Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarship programme is open to all students, whether from the UK, EU or worldwide. We want you to come to Wales and share your culture and knowledge with us. In return we want to instill in you a love of Wales, so that by the time you end your scholarship you'll love our country as much as we do.
"How to I apply?"
Check our list of available opportunities here| or using the menu opposite. If you think that you would be suitable for the programme please send your CV to powis@wales.ac.uk with the words 'potential scholar' and your field of expertise in the subject line.
"What qualifications do I need?"
Our scholarships are only for the best and brightest minds. To qualify for a PhD you need at least a 2:1 at honours degree or equivalent. Scholars will be based in an english-speaking company, so good proficiency in english is essential.
Previous project management experience is desirable, together with the ability to work well within a team. As a scholar you will have to start working with the company quickly, manage your time well, project manage your own work, and confidently present your progress to both the immediate project team and wider audiences.
There is alot of competition for places, so we can choose from the best.
"I don't have a degree but I am considered an expert in my field with many years work experience. Can I still apply?"
By all means! To us, choosing from the best means that if you think that you're the best, you can apply. To qualify for doctoral study in Wales, you will have to prove that your work experience and/or personal research is equivalent to, or greater than, a "first" at graduate degree. If you're not sure, email powis@wales.ac.uk|.
"Am I too young? or too old to apply?"
Never! We don't judge people on their age, gender, mobility or anything other than their academic and work experience.
We care more about you being dedicated and hardworking. Your role in the company, undertaking research and development, means that your ability to understand the host company's motivations and cope with the work load is more important than your age.
"What about my visa status?"
Scholars are full time students at a welsh University and applicants from outside Europe therefore need to apply for a student visa to the UK. The University of Wales can assist with this process.
