Kirsty McHugh began her doctoral research at the Centre in October 2015. As part of the AHRC–funded 'Curious Travellers' project she will be exploring the appeal of the Welsh and Scottish tour in the late 18th and early 19th century, under the supervision of Dr Mary-Ann Constantine. Kirsty's research focusses on unpublished journal, diary and epistolary accounts of travel in Scotland and Wales written by men and women from Yorkshire and Lancashire, 1760–1840. The thesis will take an inter-disciplinary approach drawing upon new or under-used primary sources in archive repositories in the north of England.

Kirsty is a trained archivist and has worked in public and private archives in Yorkshire (where she is based). She gained her professional archive qualification through the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, following an MA (Hons) in History and History of Art at the University of Edinburgh.
