Alaw Mai Edwards is working on the Centre’s new project on the Poetry of Guto’r Glyn which commenced in January 2008. Having gained a first class honours degree in Welsh at Aberystwyth University, she completed an M.Phil. on the references to clothes and costume in medieval Welsh literature, a subject which she explores further in her Ph.D. thesis ‘Clothes and Accessories in Medieval Welsh Literature’, Department of Welsh, Aberystwyth University. She is also interested in the material culture of medieval Wales and how this is reflected in the Welsh poetry and prose of the period. Given her expertise and interest in this field of study, she is looking forward to working on this exciting new project.
Before her appointment as Research Fellow at the Centre she worked on a project sponsored by the Board of Celtic Studies and under the direction of Dr A. Cynfael Lake: ‘Baledi Huw Jones o Langwm / The Ballads of Huw Jones, Llangwm’. An interesting coincidence is that Alaw was also born and raised in the village of Llangwm. An anthology of the ballads will be published in due course.
