The Academic Office
Headed by the Director of Academic Affairs, the Academic Office carries out the responsibilities arising from the University’s primary function as a degree-awarding body, including supporting the work of the University’s structure for academic governance - the Academic Board, the Quality and Standards Board, the Research Degrees Board and the Regulations and Special Cases Board, as well as the University’s own group for critical reflection on matters of academic quality, the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Forum.
Much time and effort is also expended on the promotion and administration of bequest scholarships, prizes and awards in order to bring the greatest possible benefit to current and future students. Other responsibilities include the production of degree and other award certificates, maintaining the historical student record, the University’s academic dress and the development of appropriate stakeholders’ fora.
As will be evident, major responsibility for developing and progressing the University’s agenda for academic quality and enhancement also rests with the Office, and areas of on-going activity at the current time include developing work in the fields of equivalency assurance, student engagement and enhancement activities which are appropriate in the University’s context.
