University of Wales recent merger developments

Following the announcement re-affirming the University of Wales’s merger with the University of Wales: Trinity Saint David and Swansea Metropolitan University, we would like to reassure University of Wales Alumni that this change will not affect them.

The unified institution will now be merged under the historic 1828 Royal Charter of Trinity Saint David, rather than under the 1893 University of Wales Charter. However, Graduates will still have the University of Wales award which they received upon graduation and will continue to be valued members of the University of Wales Alumni Association.

Recent developments in Welsh Higher Education policy have been driven by a desire for there to be fewer universities in Wales. The Welsh Government is putting policies in place to have only six or seven universities. Our merger is in response to this challenge from the Government

Yes. You studied for and were awarded a degree from the University for Wales. As well as being a member of your respective institution’s alumni scheme, you will always have a connection to and be a welcome member of the University of Wales Alumni Association.

Answer:

The University of Wales degree and the name University of Wales have a strong history and are widely recognised and highly regarded by employers worldwide. There are many University of Wales alumni who graduated from universities which no longer award University of Wales degrees. They have suffered no detrimental effect as a result of that change and include many senior members of Welsh Government, people in public life and academic staff at universities across the UK.

Answer:

No. On Graduation you received your degree certificate and its value and significance will never change. If you ever lose or need a replacement certificate then as before the University will offer services to assist with this.

Answer:

Yes. All international and domestic Branches and Sections will remain active and continue with business as normal. These do a great job in helping to maintain links with our alumni, enabling them to keep in touch with each other and to feel part of a wider international community
